I joined Chemicals and Health Branch (CHB) in 2006 and worked mostly on the interface between environment (specifically chemicals) and health. I am currently coordinating UNEP’s work on “lead” from all sources (paints and batteries and others) in collaboration with partners and stakeholders. As component lead in the SAICM GEF project lead paint component, my role is to ensure collaboration across executing partners to deliver national lead paint laws, thereby contributing to a healthier environment.
I also provide input to the strategic policy and framework of the CHB such as on the Strategic Approach beyond 2020 in the context of the sustainable development goals.
I am a Doctor of Medicine, with a Master’s in Public Health, and a Bachelor of Science in Biology. I was Director for Environmental and Occupational Health in the Philippine Department of Health and held short term posts at WHO in Geneva before joining UNEP.
